A career transition in middle age can be both frightening and exciting depending on the situation you find yourself in.

The itch to change careers can stem from personal or professional reasons or both. But before you take the plunge, remember every job has its own positives and negatives. Even if you choose to become an entrepreneur, you are likely to face challenges like having to go through red tape government procedures, handling people, working long hours etc.

Here are some of the factors to consider before you make the final call.

Do not jump into a new career just because you have the passion for it. Equip yourself with the necessary skills like getting a short term degree or certification. Also remember that in any new field, you will be a fresher and competing with 20 somethings.Do you have the energy and willingness to cope up? Think about this.

  1. Secure yourself Financially

Ensure that you have adequate investments to ensure a steady monthly come while you get adventurous with your new career or job. Also, do not forget the Health Insurance.

  1. Have a Contingency Plan in Place.

Transitioning into a new career can take time and effort. Even a carefully thought out job or business plan can fail. If things go wrong, Can you go back to your original career? Trying to change a career without a backup plan can be stressful and frightening.

To conclude, mid-life is a very exciting time to start a new career. You now have the wisdom, experience and the emotional maturity that did not exist two decades back. These are extremely valuable than degrees. So go for it and have fun doing so.!
